About the Campaign/Why Give?

Corporate Giving

ISAKOS is focused on expanding international education in arthroscopy, knee surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine in an organized and collaborative effort with national societies and industry partners. To do so, ISAKOS has launched the ISAKOS Global Connection: A Campaign for Education, Research and Collaboration, a fundraising campaign that will help shape the future of arthroscopy, knee surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine around the world. At the core of this endeavor is a determination to provide high quality and accessible educational programs to a global audience.

Through partnerships with ISAKOS corporate supporters, we are given the opportunity to reach a variety of audiences through education and training, to raise funds for research and patient education, and to promote access to high-quality care.

We strive to provide each of our corporate donors with a unique way to support the initiative that is most important to you. Whether you want to make a direct donation to one of our existing programs or have a specific proposal in mind, we look forward to working with you, and invite your company to partner with us in an initiative that will have a lasting impact.

When you become a corporate partner, we can work together to ensure that funding is available to continue our critical work in physician education, research, quality treatment, patient education and access to high-quality care for all.

Individual Giving

The International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) invites ISAKOS members to support the ISAKOS Global Connection: A Campaign for Education, Research and Collaboration.

The international orthopaedic community is at an important crossroad: medical innovations and applied technology are beginning to outpace the education of many orthopaedic surgeons. Limited resources and training in many parts of the world prevent surgeons from mastering the latest techniques and ultimately hinder the advancement of patient care.

The ISAKOS Board of Directors is looking to the future and enhancing educational and research opportunities for its members by providing an international framework for the exchange and dissemination of information in arthroscopy, knee surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine that will benefit each member and their patients.

With the financial support of its membership, ISAKOS will expand the educational and research opportunities available to our international constituency. Focusing on the regions of the world with limited accessibility to educational and research opportunities, it is the goal of this member giving initiative to increase the number of ISAKOS courses and ISAKOS Approved Teaching Centers, to implement an international research grants program, and to enhance fellows’ and residents’ training opportunities.

ISAKOS members are invited to pledge at any level of support, but we hope that you will consider giving at a level of $1,000 per year for five years, in support of the ISAKOS “Godfather Initiative”. At this level of support, a portion of your pledge would be allocated toward membership for a deserving individual from a developing region in the world for five years. Through your donation, you will be recognized as a Global Connection Campaign supporter, and specifically as an ISAKOS “Godfather”.

Benefits to godfathers are distinct, and include special membership recognition, an invitation to a reception at the 2013 ISAKOS Congresses with the member you support, an ISAKOS Godfather ribbon, and a permanent pin. Please join us by making a financial commitment to the ISAKOS Global Connection Campaign.

Campaign Priorities and Funding

ISAKOS Education Initiatives

International Meetings And Workshops

Due to a diverse and global audience, ISAKOS is aware of the need to develop an array of hands-on education and training opportunities for its members. To address this challenge, the Society will be expanding its international meetings and hands- on workshops. Each year, after determining areas where educational need is greatest, ISAKOS will organize, promote and host a series of high-quality, surgical skills workshops in regions throughout the world. Topics will be determined by the ISAKOS Committees through the identification of educational gaps. The two-day workshops will be presented in collaboration with partner and national societies including AANA, AOSSM, ESSKA, SLARD and APOSSM. In addition, as an educational supplement to the Biennial Congress, ISAKOS offers concurrent courses that provide focused one- and two- day long coverage of hot topics in the area of orthopaedic procedures and treatments.

ISAKOS E-Learning

The ISAKOS eLearning Center provides state-of-the-art, technique-based educational activities that will offer users the latest information in arthroscopy, knee surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine, as well as archived educational material that users can access any time, from any place, worldwide. The ISAKOS eLearning Center will be searchable by area of interest. Content includes:

  • Surgical procedures via demonstration videos by globally renowned experts
  • Normal Arthroscopic Anatomy videos
  • Online courses with CME accreditation
  • Scientific journal forum
  • Online case presentations
  • Current Concepts articles by ISAKOS members
  • Enduring material and presentations from past ISAKOS Congresses and meetings
  • Pictograms for arthroscopic images
  • "Articles of the month"
  • Webinars

ISAKOS-Approved International Teaching Centers

ISAKOS approved teaching centers are known for their quality education and training worldwide. The need exists, however, to increase the number of teaching centers throughout the world, and to assist in the provision of online resources and standardization of curriculum for established centers. Through these centers, ISAKOS will provide consistent, regional education opportunities and traveling scholarships to members. ISAKOS is currently determining where the need is greatest for new centers, and identifying physician leaders in those areas to assist in the development of centers.

ISAKOS is establishing teaching center scholarships to assist members with financial aid to attend teaching centers. Scholarships are critical to the education and training of members in developing countries, and will be based on financial need.

ISAKOS “Teach The Teacher” Workshop

Physicians who are interested in setting up a teaching center, or who wish to enhance their skills as an educator and teaching center leader can attend this ISAKOS workshop which will provide practical knowledge on topics such as setting up a surgical lab, and teaching center guidelines and challenges.

Current Concept Meetings

Current concept meetings are formed to discuss a particular hot topic and ultimately produce publishable consensus documents such as papers and booklets for distribution to ISAKOS members. Subjects discussed may include treatment options, terminology and surgical outcomes.

Journal Access For Specialty Societies Through ISAKOS

Companies may sponsor journal subscriptions for new members of the Society or for national groups in specific areas of the world. Journal subscriptions would provide the latest scientific information to physicians who may not otherwise have access to, or be able to afford this subscription.

Fellow And Resident Education

  • New Residents/Fellows pre-Congress Meeting – ISAKOS is developing a special program for fellows and residents that will be held prior to each ISAKOS Congress. Both didactic and hands-on programming will be included.
  • ISAKOS Fellow and Resident Registry – ISAKOS has developed an online Fellowship and Residency Directory, targeted at reaching and documenting all orthopaedic surgery programs throughout the world. The registry will serve as a resource for physicians of all levels to seek available fellowship and residency opportunities throughout the globe. The registry will also give ISAKOS a resource for new members and will assist in its educational outreach efforts. The ISAKOS International Fellowship & Residency Registry will be a living database, available to all on the ISAKOS website.
  • Fellows’ and Residents’ Scholarship Program – ISAKOS is developing scholarships to bring fellows and residents throughout the world to sites where they can learn from expert physicians at these institutions.

ISAKOS Research Initiatives

Research Grants Program

Over the next five to ten years, ISAKOS will become a major source of funding internationally for the highest quality research in arthroscopy, knee surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine. The establishment of a competitive grants program will enhance the quality of ISAKOS meetings by improving research. The funds obtained through the Global Connection campaign will be used to award money for research based on a competitive grant submission process. Various levels of grant funding will be offered to researchers across the globe including:

  • Multi-center clinical or basic science research (international collaboration preferred)
  • Clinical research
  • Basic science research
  • Resident/fellow research projects
  • Young investigator research
  • Regional awards for South America, Africa, Asia/Pacific and Eastern Europe

ISAKOS Handbook Of Research Methods

ISAKOS leaders have authored a handbook for individuals who are interested in learning how to conduct research. This comprehensive resource, with 19 chapters, contains four sections, including evidence-based medicine, study designs, general biostatistics and manuscript writing. The Handbook is available in print or via online to all ISAKOS members.
