There is no significant difference between medial pivot implant and mobile bearing implant. Both implants are better used in younger patients and provide good stability as both implant have a low friction rate that provides better knee kinematics.

Importance: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) shows generally excellent clinical results, but knee kinematics after TKA is different from physiological kinematics. Mobile-bearing (MB) TKA implants were developed as an alternative to fixed-bearing implants because of their theoretical advantages related to wear and range of motion. Several modern TKA implants are nowadays designed trying to reproduce the normal kinematics of the knee miming the physiological Medial Pivot (MP) pattern with a greater conformity on the medial compartment between tibial insert and femoral condyle, and a less congruency on the lateral side.


To provide the comparison outcome measurements included Range of motion of the knees, and Hospital special surgery (HSS) Score between mobile bearing and medial pivot total implants in total knee arthroplasty in management of ostheoarthritis of the knee.
Findings: The mean HSS Score for mobile bearing and Medial pivot is 97.65 and 96.42. The mean Range of Motion (ROM) archived for the mobile bearing implant is 113,3 degree and 122,5 degree for medial pivot design.


and Relevance: There is no significant differences between MP implant and mobile bearing implant. However, medial pivot is preferred in younger patients because their design allows more physiological knee kinematics motion.
