Andreas Martin Seitz, born in 1980, is a biomedical engineer with special interest in knee joint biomechanics. He received his Dipl.-Ing. degree at the Technical Hochschule Ulm (THU) in 2007 before graduating in Biomedical Engineering (M.Sc.) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). In 2013 he received a doctoral degree (Dr. biol. hum.) at the Institute of Orthopaedic Research and Biomechanics at Ulm University for his dissertation entitled “Biomechanics of the human knee joint meniscus and its root attachments”. Before returning to his current group leader position in joint biomechanics at the Institute of Orthopaedic Research and Biomechanics Ulm he spent three years working for an orthopaedic company as product specialist and product manager in the field of trauma and limb reconstruction of adults and pediatric patients. Currently, he is an active member of seven scientific societies and holds the secretary position of the meniscus section of the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS). His current scientific projects are focussing on the degeneration interplay between the meniscus and the articular cartilage and on the rehabilitation optimization after meniscus injury. Further, his scientific interests comprise the biomechanical optimization of orthopaedic surgical procedures of different joints, MRI of the knee joint and the use of novel biomaterials for cartilage and meniscus replacement.
