At the conclusion of this session, participants will have a clear understanding of how to manage common challenges of aseptic revision surgery. This includes preoperative assessment, surgical exposure, implant removal, assessment and management of bone stock loss, reestablishment of joint height, stems, cones and offset couplers and implant selection to achieve stability in two areas. We will cover the major failure mechanisms + surgical decision dilemmas. The goal is to move from common to complex to controversial, prompting experts to explain their algorithm and implant choice. This session is entirely case based with examples of all the challenges of aseptic revision including difficult exposure, bone loss and stiffness. The discussion will be based specifically on clinical cases with isolated polyethylene wear with osteolysis, aseptic loosening of the tibial component, stiff painful knee patellofemoral failure, and severe bone loss. Diagnosis, additional investigation, surgical plan, and the implants to be used will be the topics for discussion.
