Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, all participants should have a clear understanding of:
- How to plan TKR in the presence of severe deformity.
- Implant and technology strategies in complex cases.
- When to independently address extra-articular deformity.
- Strategies to optimize results in the presence of significant stiffness.
- Issues to consider in patients with neurologic conditions such as Parkinson’s disease.
- How the presence of stiffness and severe deformity may impact outcomes.
- How co-morbidity such as Parkinson’s disease or other neurological conditions may impact outcomes.
Cases for presentation, table discussion and reporting out may include:
- Severe varus deformity
- Severe valgus deformity
- Large flexion contracture
- Post-traumatic arthritis with retained hardware
- Chronic knee dislocation
- Prior infection
- Bone defect
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Patellar baja/post-patellectomy
- Neuromuscular disorder with quad weakness
- Extra-articular deformity
- Prior high tibial osteotomy
Each case will be supplemented by videos, ideally of patient pre and post and operative technique, and finishing with a summary of take home messages.
