Pr. Etienne Cavaignac is a knee surgeon who focusses on sports medicine and has been at the forefront of using ultrasound imaging to refine the diagnosis of knee injuries. He is currently a full Professor / Hospital Practitioner at the Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, Toulouse University Hospital in France. He performs more than 450 ACL reconstructions and more than 250 partial and total knee replacements per year. He completed his medical studies in Toulouse in 2012 and his PhD in Anthropology and Genetics of Human Populations in 2017. He was awarded a travelling fellowship from the Francophone Society of Arthroscopy in 2017. Along with being a reviewer for journals such as AJSM and KSSTA, he has authored or co-authored 130 articles in the past 5 years on topics such as the detection of anterolateral knee ligament injuries with ultrasound imaging, ethnic variations in the distal femur, and impact of ALL reconstruction. He has recently contributed to 5 book chapters, mainly on ACL reconstruction.
