Summary
Quadriceps Tendon autograft with bone block is an alternative graft choice for patients undergoing ACL revision surgery.
Abstract
Background
As anterior Cruciate ligament (ACL) revision surgery is performed increasingly in the world, the rate of second or third revision continues to rise. Autogenous Quadriceps tendon graft is a great choice to avoid new revision surgery.
Purpose
To evaluate the functional outcomes of patients who had undergone of revision ACL reconstruction with autogenous Quadriceps tendon graft.
Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4
Methods
Patients who had undergone revision ACL reconstruction with autogenous Quadriceps tendon graft with bone block between 2011 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed. Data collected included operative findings, pre and postoperative physical examination and Lysholm and International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) subjective scores.
Results
Fifty patients had undergone revision ACL reconstruction with autogenous Quadriceps tendon graft. Lysholm and IKDC scores increased postoperatively (p <.001). Three patients (6%) sustained a traumatic re rupture. Fourteen patients (28%) required lateral tenodesis with Iliotibial band for anterolateral instability during the same stage. Twenty nine patients (58%) required meniscal repair and one patient (2%) medial meniscal transplantation during the same procedure.
Conclusion
Autogenous Quadriceps tendon graft with bone block is a great choice for revision ACL reconstruction. Most patients return to sports and daily life activities with good outcomes.
