Dr Bugbee is attending physician, Department of Orthopaedics, Scripps Clinic, La Jolla, California. He is the Joint reconstruction fellowship director and head of the Scripps Cartilage Transplantation Center as well as the co director of the Scripps Regenerative Medicine and Cell Therapy Program. He also serves as medical director of the Shiley Center for Orthopaedic Research and Education.
Dr Bugbee’s clinical practice is focused on the treatment of complex cartilage problems and arthritis of the knee, hip and ankle, including the use of cartilage repair and joint preservation techniques such as osteochondral transplantation, osteotomy as well as joint replacement.
Dr Bugbee’s research focus related to cartilage involves pathogenesis of osteoarthritis, design innovation and outcome of joint replacement, regenerative medicine, cartilage tissue engineering and both basic science and clinical outcome of osteochondral allograft transplantation, for which he was awarded the 2015 Kappa Delta award
