Summary: This survey between Latin American has shown different trends and preferences in TKA in our continent.

Introduction

In an effort to know different trends and preferences of Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) surgery in our region, we decided to run a survey on SLARD (Sociedad Latinoamericana de Artroscopia, Rodilla y Deporte) members to know their personal preferences and trends while operating a TKA.

Methods

We made a survey based in topics discussed in different national registries. 315 SLARD members received the survey via e-mail.

Results

262 surgeons out of 315 (83%) answered the survey completely. Regarding the stabilization method used, 73% use a posterior stabilized (PS) TKR, 18% a cruciate retaining (CR) TKR while 9% the medial pivot system. Regarding patellar resurfacing, 49% resurface the patella. 27% never resurface it, while 24% do it based on a case-to-case basis. Regarding fixation method, 98% use cemented fixation in femur and tibia. A 2% use hybrid fixation while 1 surgeon use non-cemented fixation.
Regarding the use of computer assisted surgery (CAS), 95% do not routinely use it. 4% use navigation routinely, while a 1% use robotic surgery routinely.

Conclusions

This survey between Latin American has shown different trends and preferences in TKA in our continent.
