Antonio Arenas-Miquelez, MD, FEBOT

Dr Antonio Arenas-Miquelez, MD, FEBOT, is an orthopaedic surgeon who completed his medical degree and orthopaedic surgery residency program in his hometown Pamplona, Spain. After finishing his residency program he completed the prestigious EBOT exam and was awarded Fellowship of the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (FEBOT). After completing his residency he built particular interest in shoulder and elbow surgery. He is on the verge of completing four years of dedicated clinical and research fellowship in centres of excellence of shoulder and elbow surgery and sports medicine. He was mentored by Prof. Matthias Zumstein for one-year fellowship in shoulder, elbow and sports medicine at Bern University Hospital, Bern, Switzerland. He then spent six months working with the preeminent shoulder surgeon Prof. Ralph Hertel at Lindenhof Hospital also in Bern. Following this, he met Associate Professor Sumit Raniga and was inspired to move to Sydney to continue his shoulder and elbow training at Macquarie University Hospital. He is currently a key member of the MQ Health Translational Shoulder Research Program, led by Associate Professor Raniga. He has an important role in numerous research projects related to shoulder biomechanics, as well as in the development of the most advanced cadaveric shoulder simulator in the world.
