Franco Simini is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Informatics, at Universidad de la República, Uruguay, where he founded the Núcleo de Ingeniería Biomédica, a Department of both the Medical and Engineering Faculties. Prof. Simini is co-author of the original Perinatal Information System (SIP) developed in 1985 while serving at PAHO/WHO Center CLAP; SIP has been used for decades for Maternal & Child Health Planning in the Americas. Active in Technology Transfer, Prof. Simini directed theses, created courses, and authored publications, books and patents. His research areas include medical uses of Informatics, Biomechanics, impedance tomography, intra-abdominal pressure reduction, and biomedical instrumentation. Simini was elected Outstanding Engineer in Uruguay 2022. Co-founder of the University´s Espacio Interdisciplinario, IEEE Senior Member Prof. Simini is active in University government and outreach, chaired CLABIO2015, SABI2020 congresses, organizes 3DAHM2024 in Uruguay (December 3, 2024) and is part of the Committee towards Monterrey, Mexico, 2028 World IFMBE Congress.
