Mr Tarek Boutefnouchet was appointed as a substantive consultant surgeon in trauma and orthopaedics with specialist interest in knee surgery at the University Hospitals Birmingham in 2020. He graduated from the University of Birmingham and Completed specialist training with Birmingham and Coventry Warwickshire Orthopaedic programmes. He completed a one-year advanced training fellowship in knee surgery in Montreal, Canada with Professors Pierre Ranger and Julio Fernandes specialising in arthroscopic and sports surgery as well as knee arthroplasty. His scope of practice and specialist interests incorporate sports injuries of the knee, ligament reconstruction, cartilage and meniscal injuries of the knee, patellar instability, as well as the treatment of degenerative knee conditions including knee preservation and knee replacement. He has published numerous scientific articles and takes an active role in research and education. He is also a researcher in mechanical engineering and honorary associate clinical professor at Birmingham University. His research field is in orthopaedic biomechanics, novel surgical designs and diagnostic innovations.
