To provide visibility that parenting in orthopaedics is challenging but possible
1. Mentorship - Learning from others experiences and providing helpful tips on how to manage it all (work life balance)
2. Provide insight to junior surgeons regarding family planning/fertility windows and potential challenges around fellowships.
3. Provide a gender based perspective on how to approach the challenges involved in parenting
4. Provide a global perspective on how we can improve our approaches to work life balance
5. Child psychologist - evidence based perspective on parenting and child development, separation anxiety, parental guilt and how to balance the needs of family and an orthopedic career
This will be an honest, interactive and informal discussion around the challenges we all face as surgeons, spouses and caregivers. The aim will be to raise awareness of problems we have experienced in balancing work and family related commitments. We also hope to encourage constructive discussion around solutions that the faculty can offer both at an individual and systemic health model of care.
