Kazunori Shimomura, M.D., Ph.D., is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee surgery, sports medicine, and regenerative medicine. He currently serves as a Professor at Kansai University of Welfare Sciences in Osaka, Japan, and as a Guest Professor at the Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine.
Dr. Shimomura received his M.D. from Osaka City University Medical School in 2003. He completed his orthopedic residency and became a board-certified orthopedic surgeon by the Japan Orthopaedic Association in 2011. He then earned his Ph.D. from the Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine in 2012. From 2012 to 2014, he worked as a research fellow and postdoctoral fellow under Prof. Rocky S. Tuan at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, USA.
In 2015, Dr. Shimomura joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor, and he assumed his current academic position in 2023. His research focuses on mesenchymal stem/stromal cell-based therapies for cartilage and meniscus repair. Clinically, his expertise includes knee ligament reconstruction, knee osteotomy, meniscal surgery, and cartilage regeneration procedures.
