Tomonori Kinugasa, MD, PhD

Ichihara Hospital
Tsukuba-shi, Ibaraki-ken JAPAN

I am an experienced orthopedic surgeon with over 30 years of practice, currently serving as the Physician-in-Chief of the Department of Orthopedics at Ichihara Hospital in Ibaraki, Japan. After graduating from the University of Tsukuba’s Faculty of Medicine, I earned a PhD in medical science, specializing in neurophysiology. This has allowed me to develop a sub-specialty in peripheral nerve research, which complements my expertise in orthopedics. My career has focused on innovative techniques in ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction and TKA (total knee arthroplasty). I have had the privilege of supporting athletes at all levels, including Olympic medalists, and have served as the Medical Commissioner of the Japan University Football Association and a team physician for various national and university teams since 1995. In 2014, I earned an IOC Diploma in Sports Medicine, further strengthening my expertise in sports medicine on a global scale. Fluent in Japanese and conversational English, I enjoy soccer, skiing, and traveling. My passion for sports and dedication to advancing orthopedic care define my professional philosophy.
