Background
Elbow tenderness and pain with resisted wrist extension are common manifestations of lateral epicondylar tendinopathy, also known as tennis elbow. Previous studies have suggested platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to be a safe and effective therapy for tennis elbow.
Objective
of the study:
To assess the effectiveness of LR-PRP in Chronic Lateral epicondylitis.
Materials And Methods
A total of 210 patients with chronic lateral epicondylitis were treated. All patients had at least 3 months of symptoms and had failed conventional therapy. The PRP was prepared from venous whole blood at the point of care and contained both concentrated platelets and leukocytes. After receiving a local anaesthetic, all patients had their extensor tendons needled with PRP. Study follow-up done for 4 years from the time of injection A successful outcome was defined greater improvement on the visual analog scale for pain.
Results
The VAS score reflected highly significant improvement in the pain of the elbow. it was noted that when the pre-procedure VAS score (mean VAS score 9.6) was compared with the score of most recent follow up (mean VAS score 0.8) shows a significant improvement in pain.
Conclusion
LR-PRP injection therapy for Chronic Tennis elbow is a good procedure of choice.
