Mario Ronga, born on 1 March 1975, is Full Professor of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at University of Messina - Italy.
He received his degree from the University of Napoli Federico II before pursuing residency studies in Orthopaedics at the University of Insubria, Varese (Italy).
He was Visiting Research Fellow for 2006/2007 at the Division of Sports Medicine, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh (USA) and in 2008 at the Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery, Keele University, Stoke on Trent (UK).
He was the Recipient of the GOTS (Gesellschaft für orthopädische-traumatologische Sportmedizin) Aircast Europe Fellowship for 2005; of the European Arthroscopy Fellowship for 2013; and of the ESSKA-APKASS (Asia-Pacific Knee, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Society) DJO Traveling Fellowship for 2014.
He received several prices and awards such as 2007 BASEM/DJO Basic Science Research Award; Highly Cited Research “Injury” journal for 2016; third most-cited article in the history (1993 – 2017) of “Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review” journal.
He was Founding Member of APKASS (Asia-Pacific Knee, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Society), SIAGASCOT (Italian Society of Upper limb, Knee, Arthroscopy, Sports, Cartilage, Orthopaedic Technologies) and AUOT (University Academy Of Orthopedics And Traumatology). Actually he is Treasurer of SIAGASCOT and Auditor of the Board of Directors of SIOT (Italian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology).
He has had more than 70 articles published in peer reviewed journals on various aspects of trauma and orthopaedic surgery, sports medicine and traumatology and road traffic injuries (h-index 26).
Current research activity is focusing on various fields of basic sciences, of tissue engineering, of sport traumatology and road traffic injuries.
