Dear ISAKOS Members and Friends,
It is a pleasure to introduce to you the second issue of the ISAKOS eNewsletter for 2026. In this issue, you will find six Current Perspective articles, each accompanied by a 5-in-1 summary video, addressing key topics related to upper and lower-extremity orthopedic sports injuries. In addition to classic articles exploring surgical decision-making, operative techniques, and postoperative outcomes related to knee, shoulder, and elbow pathology—as well as an article highlighting exceptional leading women within ISAKOS—this issue places special emphasis on several aspects of the transformational impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in our field.
Several articles examine how emerging AI technologies may reshape orthopedic practice and research. Readers will be introduced to terms such as “digital twinning,” among others, which hold great potential for improving patient selection and enabling more personalized surgical planning. The article entitled “From Tool to Teammate: The Rise of Agentic AI in Orthopaedic Practice” explores these developments and their implications for clinical care. In “Control Over Outcome,” readers will learn how AI-enabled systems may optimize shared data sovereignty and facilitate the global flow of outcomes data, helping to optimize future decision-making. As AI continues to transform our common future, these articles provide valuable insights on the opportunities—and shared responsibilities—that lie ahead.
The selected Current Perspective podcast for this issue focuses on one of the most actively discussed topics in our field: meniscal root tears. We invite you to listen as the authors and our editorial team discuss key clinical questions, including the indications for meniscal root repair, expected outcomes, meniscal centralization, and other evolving areas of surgical treatment.
We recently interviewed the winner of the Quick Quiz that was featured in the first issue of the 2026 eNewsletter, Dr. Oyoo O. Were from Kenya. We invite you to listen to this special podcast, in which Dr. Were discusses how participation in ISAKOS initiatives has contributed to both personal and collaborative achievements. We also encourage you test your knowledge by completing the current issue’s 5-question Quick Quiz; you may be the next ISAKOS member to be invited to share your personal experiences with the ISAKOS community through our social media platforms.
Another important resource on this topic is the summary of the ISAKOS Regional Summit on Knee and Shoulder Sports and Arthroplasty, which took place in Mumbai from June 4–6, 2026. This landmark meeting was the first-ever regional summit dedicated to our field. We encourage readers to familiarize themselves with this important new international initiative.
Last but not least, the editorial team of the ISAKOS eNewsletter had the pleasure of attending the ESSKA biennial meeting in the beautiful city of Prague in the Czech Republic this past May (Figure 1). As always, the meeting provided the opportunity for members of ESSKA and ISAKOS—two of the most globally influential orthopedic sports societies—to connect, share ideas, and strengthen the spirit of collaboration that advances our field.
Finally, please note that abstract submission is now open for the ISAKOS 2027 biennial meeting in Sydney, Australia. Please submit your best abstracts to this event!
Thank you for being part of the ISAKOS community, and we hope that you continue to enjoy your ISAKOS learning experience—anytime, anywhere!
Sincerely yours,
