Andrew J. Cosgarea, MD

Dr. Cosgarea is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins University and holder of the Drew Family Professorship in honor of Alec J. Cosgarea. He attended medical school at the Jefferson Medical College from 1984 through 1987. His orthopaedic residency training was at the University of Rochester from 1987 to 1992, and he completed the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in 1993. After five years on the faculty at Ohio State University, Dr. Cosgarea returned to Johns Hopkins in 1998. Dr. Cosgarea is the Head Team Physician for the NCAA Divisions I and III Johns Hopkins University Athletic Department since 2000, and was an Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Baltimore Orioles Baseball Team from 2000-2010. Dr. Cosgarea is involved in research projects studying knee kinematics, arthroscopy education, knee physical examination and the surgical treatment of recurrent patellar instability. He is the author or co-author of over 100 scientific articles, 40 chapters and 2 textbooks. Dr. Cosgarea is on the Board of Directors of the Patellofemoral Foundation, is a previous AOSSM Treasurer and Board member, and is an active member of AAOS, AANA, IPSG and ISAKOS.
