POWH is a District General Hospital. It caters to a population of approx 300,000 people. It has a busy A&E. There is a dedicated Day Surgery Unit and Main theatres with 3 laminar airflow theatres. All aspects of knee surgery is undertaken, from cartilage to ligament reconstructions, from HTO/SCO to unicompartmental and total knee replacements. Shoulder surgery is performed by 2 Consultants, but this is not a part of the fellowship, but can be arranged. A significant number of patellofemoral instability patients are treated. So far, 241 MPFL reconstructions out of which 88 are combined procedures. Approximately 20 -30 UKR and 10 PFR are performed annually.

Estimate of Living Expenses (Housing and other major costs): Bridgend is 3.00 hours by train from London. Accommodation is available on site at Bridgend in the residencies for approximately £50 per night. Food is at own cost.

Role of the fellow with respect to Clinical, Surgical, Research, and other opportunities: If GMC registration, then surgical exposure and can scrub up. if not, then clinical and research and observership.

Research projects, research facilities and resources, cadaver labs, publication opportunities, integration of the patient and public involvement, and the role of the fellow: There is a dedicated Multi Professional Education Centre, with library, lecture hall and other teaching facilities. Rerseach facilities can be organised at the University sites depending upon the research project. The role of the Fellow can be adjusted to their needs. They can attend theatres and clinics and undertake research on the clinical side. Research projects are All inside ACL reconstruction, Use of Unloader Brace, Bilateral simultaneous arthroplasty, Microplasty technique for UKR.
