Arriaza and Associates have moved to their own, state of the art, building in La Coruña. It is a modern center equipped with an ambulatory surgery theater, ancilary services (physiotherapy, 1.5 T MRI, standard X-Ray, gym…) and comfortable parking with direct lift to the Institute. The Instituto Médico Arriaza y Asociados is located at the Enrique Mariñas street; 15009 La Coruña; SPAIN. Our phone number is: 0034.981.113030, and to send applications please use the gestion@arriaza.es mail address. Dr. Rafael Arriaza is the head of the Orthopaedic Surgery Departement. Another seven doctors cover the different fields of the speciality, from arthroplasty to hand surgery, through arthroscopy, spine, or extracorporeal shock wave therapy. Orthopaedic coverage of the top level area teams in different sports (from the Deportivo de La Coruña in soccer to first division male team handball, roller hochey, female volleyball and both male and female basketball teams) is made at the Institute. Our podiatric unit is the reference in Galicia for the Podoactiva system, that fits biomechanical evaluation and customized insoles for the Spanish Soccer Federation and Spanish Soccer National Team, as well as top level teams as Manchester City, Barcelona, Udinese, Real Madrid, etc. We have been pioneers in the use of platelet rich plasma, as our first case was done back in 2002, in a first division soccer player with a torn Achilles tendon, and we published the results on the safety of the technique shortly thereafter. Currently, we are one of the few centers licensed in Spain to use conditioned autologous serum (Orthokine). Recently, a rehabilitation unit devoted to physiotherapy and return to sport training has been developed, in the same building (The "Training Clinic"), where athletes from different sports and levels (from amateur to Olympic Champions) come to receive preventive and rehab- training and where the fellows can get experience in out- of-the-surgery therapeutic options. Every Friday, a round table is done, to discuss selected cases and set uniform criteria. A total of 1.200 orthopaedic surgeries are done every year by the team, with a heavy load on arthroscopic and sports surgery. The team has extensive experience not only in knee and shoulder surgery, but also in hip, ankle and foot arthroscopic surgery, elbow and small toe and hand joints arthroscopic surgery. We are reference center for shoulder and hip procedures for Mitek-DePuy and Smith & Nephew companies, and our surgeons are teachers and lecturers in the hands-on surgical courses run by the Spanish Arthroscopy Association.
