Gelenkpunkt consists of 5 specialists in trauma surgery and sports traumatology and is located in Innsbruck. Ability, assurance, availability and affordability are the principles of our medical considerations when treating a patient. Teaching and mentoring of residents and students implies a constant re-evaluation of one’s medical knowledge and treatment. Both the student and the teacher benefit from this process. A cooperation with different target groups (students, physiotherapists, physicians, patients) demands to enlarge your own perspective as well as to continuously re-establish your knowledge. An intensive preparation and reliable data evaluation are important prerequisites for an international presentation. Strict rules also have to be applied for the development of new surgical techniques and of new medical implants in order to ensure patient safety. The team supports the scientific work with staff and by technical know-how and infrastructure. It is our aim to establish a wide and international network for research and documentation. The specialities of Gelenkpunkt are knee surgery and sports medicine.

Research projects, research facilities and resources, cadaver labs, publication opportunities, integration of the patient and public involvement, and the role of the fellow: The center has accomplished several research projects regarding ACL injuries, MPFL reconstructions, meniscus allografts, total knee replacement, …. Furthermore we are creating a “knee database” which is growing daily and, at the moment, consists of more than 4000 surgeries. The role of the fellow is to support the research team and also to assume responsibilities for future studies.
