Presentation Title: CT Sagittal Image Evaluation for Osteochondritis Dissecans of the Elbow Correlates with Clinical Outcomes of Arthroscopic Debridement in Adolescent Baseball Players
The Sports group of the Department of Orthopaedics at Tokushima University is deeply honored to have received 1st place for the Gary G. Poehling Award at the 2023 ISAKOS Congress in Boston, USA. Our Research project is entitled “CT Sagittal Image Evaluation for Osteochondritis Dissecans of the Elbow Correlates with Clinical Outcomes of Arthroscopic Debridement in Adolescent Baseball Players”. Arthroscopic debridement is one of the effective treatments for OCD. While our cases demonstrated favorable clinical results, a few cases had suboptimal outcomes. We evaluated the size and location of osteochondral defects on coronal and sagittal planes and investigated the correlation between the size and location of the defects and clinical outcomes. In conclusion, the size and location of the defects in the sagittal planes were correlated with debridement outcomes.
This work is not something I accomplished alone; many others deserve to share in this award. I would like to thank Dr. Takenobu Iwase, Dr. Shinji Kashiwaguchi, and Dr. Tetsuya Matsuura for supervising this study and Dr. Joji Iwase and Dr. Koichi Sairyo for their support. We would also like to thank ISAKOS for acknowledging and encouraging our research.
We will make further efforts to advance clinical practice and research for the benefit of athletes, and we sincerely hope that our work will contribute to their well-being with recognition from ISAKOS. We once again express our heartfelt appreciation to ISAKOS for this honorable award.
