Recent activity of Teaching Center: Several simulation courses are offered, including the Chertsey FRCS course held biannually. Additionally, numerous journal clubs are conducted. The fellow will engage in various regional Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings within the region. The South East Sam Simmonds meetings occurred last May and recur annually, featuring invited guests from across the UK and worldwide. The department fully funds three fellows. Over the past six months, the department has hosted five visitors from the UK, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Panama.

Role of the fellow with respect to Clinical, Surgical, Research, and other opportunities: The fellow will closely collaborate with Prof Imam and the other consultants focusing on complex trauma and elective procedures. The successful candidate will primarily work with the consultants in their preferred speciality covering all aspects of trauma and elective surgery. The clinical workload mirrors the unit's status as a tertiary referral centre for complex cases in the region. The unit boasts an active research group that regularly convenes. It has a strong track record of producing outputs for peer-reviewed journals or presenting at international meetings. The incoming fellow will receive strong encouragement to participate in research activities, facilitated by a dedicated research fellow within the unit. There is an opportunity for more collaborative research as the unit hosts the OrthoGlobe initiative. The orthopaedic unit places a significant emphasis on postgraduate education, hosting several courses annually open to applicants nationwide. These courses, including Chertsey FRCS Orth revision courses and simulation courses, provide opportunities for fellows to contribute as faculty members, enhancing their CVs and teaching experience for future consultant roles. Under the guidance of senior colleagues, the fellow gains exposure to a variety of challenging trauma cases, with opportunities for both supervised and independent work. Additionally, the fellow participates in the general orthopaedic on-call schedule. This will be based on the fellows registration with the general medical council. The volume of both simple and complex elective procedures allows most fellows to consider pursuing independent practice upon completion of their fellowship This fellowship expects involvement in academic work, with one day allocated for research. The presentation and publication of ongoing and new research are expected and heavily supported. Research supervision, involvement in national trials, and affiliation with the Smart Health Centre are part of the programme. On average, fellows can gain 2+ publications per year.

Related Conference/Lecture Schedule: Trauma meetings daily and elective lists 7 days a week. There are multiple research, governance and teaching meetings over the months. A monthly journal club is undertaken routinely in the department.
