Role of the fellow with respect to Clinical, Surgical, Research, and other opportunities: The WAKAMATSU HOSPITAL Sports Medicine Fellowship Program offers an exciting and comprehensive one-year fellowship focused on Knee, Shoulder, Elbow, and Hip Sports Medicine. Fellows from abroad have the unique opportunity to customize their learning experiences, immersing themselves in diverse orthopedic sports medicine specialties tailored to their personal interests and career goals.
Throughout this dynamic twelve-month program, fellows actively participate in clinical care, surgical procedures, and research activities. Our expert physicians conduct approximately 900 sports medicine surgeries annually, providing fellows extensive hands-on experience and exposure to cutting-edge techniques. The clinic treats a diverse patient population, including recreational enthusiasts, elite athletes, and patients from across Japan and internationally, allowing fellows to gain a broad spectrum of clinical experience.
As an officially recognized educational institution by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, international fellows training for three months or more can obtain a temporary medical license (a fee of 15,800 yen applies), permitting them to scrub in and actively participate in surgical procedures. Additionally, fellows interested in foundational science have the opportunity to engage in advanced mesenchymal stem cell research, enriching their training with groundbreaking scientific exploration.
