Summary: Early MRI results for SCR with Fascia Lata Autograft using Mihata technique demonstrates high reliability of healing, graft integrity, graft thickness and superior instability correction.

Purpose

Evaluate the Early MRI results for healing and graft integrity for Superior Capsular reconstruction (SCR) with Fascial Lata autograft (FL) in the USA ( SCR-FL USA)using Mihata Technique for Irreparable Rotator Cuff tears.

Methods

18 patients who underwent SCR-FL using Mihata Technique by a single surgeon between 4/2023 and 5/2024 had their 3month/and or 6month MRI's reviewed for healing to the GT and Glenoid, Graft integrity and thickness and reduction of superior instability. The review was completed by the operating surgeon, a second orthopedic surgeon and a senior independent Musculoskeletal radiologist

Results

16 of 18 (89%)had good early healing to the GT and Glenoid, with intact grafts of thickness between 5-9mm and reduction of superior instability. One had good healing and graft integrity but did not reduce superior instability. One had healing at the GT but had complete disruption of the graft and did not reduce superior instability.

Conclusion

Early MRI results for SCR-FL USA using Mihata technique demonstrates
high reliability of healing, graft integrity, graft thickness and superior instability correction. The initial Early results using Mihata technique in the USA are similar to the results reported by Dr. Mihata.
